Dr David Connor

Dr David Connor
BMedSc(Hons) (USyd), PhD (UNSW)

David is a member of the Department of Haematology at the St Vincent’s Centre of Applied Medical Research. David’s specialty is flow cytometric assays of platelet function. David obtained his PhD from the Univeristy of New South Wales with a study of the procoagulant activity of platelet-derived microparticles.

Dr Thomas Exner

Dr Tom Exner
MSc (USyd), PhD (University of Waterloo, Ontario)

Tom graduated MSc (inorganic chemistry) from Sydney University in 1966, worked briefly in the detergents industry (Unilever R&D) and later gained a PhD in biochemistry (snake venoms) from the University of Waterloo in Ontario. He worked for 20 years in Haematology labs at Royal Prince Alfred and Westmead Hospitals in Sydney, becoming increasingly involved with research, quality control matters and diagnostic test development in the blood coagulation area.

His main technical contributions have been the kaolin clotting time and Russell viper venom tests for lupus anticoagulants. He has made numerous presentations at haematology meetings and contributed over 90 publications and several patents. In 1993 he joined Gradipore which successfully commercialised the dRVVT . He now runs his own company Haematex Research which has patented and developed the XACT test for assessing hypercoagulability. Haematex Research has collaborations with various international diagnostic companies and provides specialised consulting services.

Former Members

Dr Anne Pilotelle

Dr Anne Pilotelle
MSc (University of Strasbourg, France), PhD (USyd)

Anne worked as a Research Scientist, after previously specialising in Pharmaceutical Chemistry. She obtained a Master of Pharmacy from the Faculty of Pharmacy (University of Strasbourg, France) and PhD (University of Paris XI, France and University of Sydney, Australia) with a study of the effect of lipid-derivatives on membrane proteins structure in liposomes.
Anne's main research interest focussed on the interaction of sclerosants with platelet function, specialising in ELISA tests and platelet aggregation analysis (Multiplate).
Anne is a member of Australian Society for Thrombosis and Haemostasis (ASTH) and the Australasian College of Phlebology (ACP).

David Du

David is a Research Scientist specialising in Genetic Engineering. He is studying a combined Bachelor Degree in Computer Systems Engineering and Biotechnology at the University of Technology, Sydney (NSW, Australia). David is a member of The Australian Society for Thrombosis and Haemostasis (ASTH) and The Australasian College of Phlebology (ACP).

Evan Cameron

As a mechanical engineering student with the University of Sydney, Evan researched the topic of fluid dynamics of liquid and foam sclerosants.
Supervisor: Dr K Parsi, Co-supervisors: Prof. Masud Behnia, Dr Attilio Cavezzi

Robert Ma

As a medical student with the University of Sydney, Robert researched the topic of neurological adverse events including ischemic events associated with foam sclerotherapy.
