Upper Limb Studies

Upper limb venous studies (40 minutes per limb)- This scan is done to assess the veins of arms  and to rule out thrombosis or other pathology at these sites.

The Sonographer will assess each vein within the arm. You will be lying down for the length of the scan. The Sonographer will run the transducer along your arm. While scanning the arm the Sonographer will push on your arm to assess for any blood clots. The Sonographer will assess the veins for blood clots and this is done by assessing the blood flow within the veins.

This is the position that you will be in for the ultrasound examination. The image on the right is an ultrasound image of the veins of the arm.
