Phlebology Vascular Lab
At Sydney Skin and Vein Clinic, we specalise in disorders of vasculature and in particlular the abnormalities of the venous system. Our Phlebeology Vascular Lab is equipped with the State of the Art duplex ultrasound equipments (Toshiba Aplio XGs and Xarios). We use special ultrasound packages and were one of the first centres in Australia to obtain the 18 MHz high frequency ultrasound probes.
Our sonographers are specially trained in phlebology and in using the modern ultrasound systems.
Our Phlebology Vascular Lab Services include:
- Venous incompetence mapping (45 minutes per leg)- this is sanning all the superficial and deep veins of each leg and generating a map of the incompetent (abnormal) veins.
- Deep vein thrombosis studies (40 minutes per leg)- this is sanning of all the deep veins of each leg to rule out a blood clot. This scan gets done with the patient lying down.
- Deep vein incompetence studies (50 minutes per leg)- this is scanning all the deep veins of each leg to assess their function. This scan is done with the patient standing.
- Vascular Malformation studies (50 minutes)- This scan is to assess lesions suspected of being malformations, to differentiate them from tumours and to establish the type of malformation.
- Upper limb and neck studies (40 minutes per limb)- This scan is done to assess the veins of arms and the neck and to rule out thrombosis or other pathology at these sites.
- Popliteal vein/artery and other compression syndromes (30 minutes)- The sonographer will use special techniques to look for these conditions.
- Abdominal veins and IVC (45 minutes)- Here the sonographer investigates the Iliac veins, inferior vena cava and renal veins.
- Pelvic vein studies (50 minutes)- The sonorapher will use a normal probe as well as a trans-vaginal probe to assess the pelvic veins for reflux (backflow). This is used in the asessment of pelvic congestion syndrome and vulvar veins.
- ABI and peripheral arterial studies (50 minutes)- This study is done to assess the bloodflow through the arteries of lower limbs.
- Digital Infrared Thermography (30 minutes)- This is to assess the vascularity of the skin and the underlyimg tissues and helps us in assessing the function of the vascular system.
